"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
No nice quote, no more sign posts, just exhaustion. This has been more of an ordeal than originally assumed (so much about vision). But it has come to an end (so much about being moved). A lot of words (so much about communication) in the hope there may be some content to it. Now it is for the evaluator to be flexible enough to find the pearls of great price, or to decide to cast it out: lost.
In summary, what did I learn: Never to underestimate the amount of work. And I did gain a deeper appreciation of both: Jesus' thoughts, words and deeds as a leader that even time is measured after - and modern leadership literature, trying to analyze what it is that makes a leader. Or that makes a leader great.
On the whole, there were many modern concepts recognizable in the ancient record. The importance of communication or flexibility, for example. But in a few facets I do see major differences: the ability to accept and express loss or other feelings. The willingness to establish a succession. And, going back to communication, I do miss those business leaders who can tell stories that move, because they are authentically told. Inside and outside the company.
I have gained additional insights, that's for sure. Will these make me a better leader? I do not know, though I hope so. The judgment on that lies with those I have been given responsibility for.
